Insurance & Cost

Well first, you’ll join me in my office. New clients often remark that the office is: cute, cozy, and smells good. I take joy in creating a calm & relaxing atmosphere where my clients can have a safe space to do the work of therapy. We will explore your past and current life through conversation and experiential activities. I will offer you honesty and direct communication. As we work toward your goals together, I might recommend homework assignments for you to continue your work outside of sessions. Clients often remark on being surprised at the depth of conversation, and express gratitude for feeling seen and understood. But you can also expect to be challenged at times & held accountable in meeting your goals.

What can I expect from a session?

A therapeutic relationship should be very different than a friendship. First, a clinical relationship is focused solely on you, the client. We will not spend time talking about me, and you will not have to worry about tending to my needs, or making space for me in conversation. Therapy is an hour of time devoted to working toward your goals.

- A therapeutic relationship is also different in that you are guaranteed full confidentiality. Everything talked about in the office stays in the office. The only exceptions being a few extreme circumstances that will be discussed in first session.
- Therapy is also different from a friendship, because the guidance and advice is based on clinical research and evidenced based practices, rather than an individual’s life experience. Although, I’m not knocking the value of good friendships in life! We all need them, but therapy is offering a different level of care. Let’s look at this through a medical lens: Consider rather than mental health symptoms, you have physical
symptoms of a potential virus. You can treat this a few different ways: you can look up symptoms on Web MD and try to figure out how to cure yourself at home (sometimes this helps and sometimes it can make things worse), you can discuss your symptoms with a friend and see if they have any advice based on their experience (also can be a mixed bag), but your best bet is to go see a qualified healthcare professional, get a proper diagnosis, and a prescription for your illness. Mental illness is no different.

I have friends why do I need to talk to a therapist?

First step, is giving us a call! We’ll get some information from you, and you will be e-mailed an intake packet through a secure client portal. Here you’ll be able to fill out all of your introductory paperwork, so we will not have to take time out for this in your first session. There will be a place in the portal, for you to upload your insurance information, if you are planning to utilize your insurance benefits. After we receive your completed intake packet, we will give you a call to let you know your co-pay amount and get you scheduled for your first session.

What’s the process to become a new client?

Typically sessions are scheduled one week in advance.

How quickly will I be able to get in for an appointment?

I require a 24 hour notice for appointment reschedules or cancellations. There is a late cancellation/ no show fee of $100.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

If you’ve been to therapy before, you’ve probably experienced having your therapist take notes during session. While many therapists are able to take notes in session, and it not be a distraction- I choose not to do so. I want my clients to have my full attention for their therapy hour. I find it easier to stay focused and connect with my clients, when I reserve note-taking for outside of the session. Luckily, I have a very good memory!

Will you be taking notes the whole time I’m in session?

As a counselor, I can not prescribe medication. I do however, work closely with psychiatric providers in the area and can provide referrals when needed. It is always recommended to combine therapy with medication for best results.

I think I need medication, can you prescribe that?

Getting acquainted with me through my website, will help you get an idea of my specialty areas and vibe. Before scheduling your first appointment, you will also be asked to fill out an intake questionnaire. This will allow me to see if there are any specific needs that I will not be able to meet. In this case, I will provide you with referrals for a better fit. My goal is always to help you get the best care, whether that is with me or with someone else!

How do I know if you are the right fit for me?
